BANKING REFORMS AND THE STABILITY OF THE NIGERIAN BANKING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT:This research attempts to establish the impact the banking reforms in Nigeria on the stability of the
banking sector. Secondary data from 2005 to 2017 were used for the study. Using Panel Data Regression
technique, it was found that total assets, performing loans and operating expenses exerted significant influence on
total deposit, which was used as a proxy for banking system stability. It was also observed that non-performing
loans, though insignificant had negative influence on total deposits as expected. Based on these findings, it was
recommended that the management of banks should not only adopt effective assets-liabilities management
strategies to boost their deposit base and sustain it through various deposit stabilization strategies; but also
effective cost reduction and control strategies with a view to drastically reducing their operating expenses. Also,
the regulatory authorities should continue to ensure effective supervision and regulation, and embark on robust
banking reforms occasionally.

ABSTRACT:Though the participation of women in economic development and community work usually realized
low as a whole due to various reasons, the contribution of gender in creating the difference in terms of their status
even among the participatory women is untouched area. For instance, the research conducted by Atinafu
Diga(2013) on assessment of economic empowerment of women the related studies entitled Assessment of
economic empowerment of Women in 01 kebele, Abay chomman Woreda dealt with only inadequate economic
empowerment problems and low participation of Women in educational leadership areas respectively as their
overall findings. As a result, this study is undertaken to assess the status of women disparity to participate in
community work in case of 01 kebele, Abbay chomman woreda, Oromia Regional State; Ethiopia. This study is
descriptive in nature. For this particular study, both quantitative and qualitative research approach were employed.
In doing this research paper, of the total population, 79 samples were selected from the town selected using
simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Here, 79 were responded for the 20 close-ended questions of
the questionnaire and another 10 were responded for open-ended questions of the interview. To analyses the
quantitative data, techniques such as tabulation, percentages, and numerical figures were employed to. On the
other hand, Narration and comparative discussion were covered to analyse the qualitatively collected data.

ABSTRACT:– The study adopted the descriptive survey design because the descriptive survey is intended to provide
statistical information about aspects of education that interest policymakers and educators. The target population
was 582 female students. The researcher determined sample size by using Yamane (1967:886)’s formula. Thus,
the sample size of the study was 100. The researcher used both primary and secondary sources of data. Besides,
the researcher used both questionnaires and semi-structured interview questions as instruments of data collection
for the study. Then the collected data were coded, sorted and processed using SPSS and the Descriptive and
analytic statistical method was used to illustrate variables used in this study. Accordingly, the major finding of the
study is those female students in both preparatory schools seriously affected by domestic gender-based violence.
Excessive workload, Povery and parents lack of education were among the major couses of GBVs.

IMPACT OF BANK VERIFICATION NUMBER (BVN) ON CORRUPT BUSINESS

ABSTRACT:The study examined the impact of Bank Verification Number on corrupt business practices in the
United Bank for Africa branches in Abuja, FCT. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of
the study consists of 21 branches of the United Bank for Africa in Abuja. The population of staff of United Bank
for Africa was uncertain and the sample used infinite sample size determination to determine the sample size of
246. The method of data collection used by this study was a questionnaire that was administered to the
respondents who are the staff of the United Bank for Africa branches in Abuja, FCT. The statistical tool used is
multiple regression and the findings revealed that implementation of BVN as a positive and significant effect on
corrupt business practices in the United Bank for Africa, Abuja branches. Other findings were that before the
introduction of BVN in the United Bank for Africa, Abuja branches have a positive and significant effect on
diversion of the fund. The study found that after the implementation of BVN in the United Bank for Africa,
Abuja branches have a positive and significant effect on the diversion of fund. The study also realized that before
the introduction of BVN in the United Bank for Africa, Abuja branches have a positive and significant effect on
money laundering. The study found that after the implementation of BVN in the United Bank for Africa, Abuja
branches have a positive and significant effect on money laundering. The study also found that the difference in
the values of mean and standard deviation indicates that the implementation of BVN in 2015 is very good and
helps the banking sector as well as the government of Nigeria to monitored banking transfer and transactions. The
difference is that model 1 has 76% coefficient of determination while model 2 has 93% coefficient of
determination which implies that implementation of BVN has helped in preventing money laundering in the
United Bank for Africa. Also, the difference is that model 1 has 76% coefficient of determination while model 2
has 93% coefficient of determination which implies that implementation of BVN has helped in preventing money
laundering in the United Bank for Africa. The study recommended that United Bank for Africa branches, Abuja
should continue to implement BVN in transacting business by carefully observing customers' biometrics such as
fingerprint, signature, pins, 11 digits numbers to prevent corrupt business practices in the bank. The bank
branches should ensure that they established a unit that will be responsible to see that the implementation of BVN
is to carry out in the branches of the United Bank for Africa. They should monitor the customers' accounts daily.

A study on socio-economic status of house maid workers in Karnataka: A Sociological Study

ABSTRACT:During last few decades there has been phenomenal growth in the numbers of working women in
India and most of them occupied in informal employment. It is clearly evident that income of house maid workers
is lowest among all the women employee of informal sector and they even face many problems compare to
others. House maid workers are engaged in household works like washing utensils floor mopping, washing
clothes cooking, and as well as some outdoor works such as buying vegetables, milk etc. Majority of them live in
poor living conditions without any colors and struggling for everyday survival.
An effort has been made in this study to trace out the socio-economic status of maid servants. For this purpose,
present study total 250 female maid servants are selected for the analysis. The researcher used structured
questionnaire for collecting data. The collected data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distribution.
The result shows that poor economic status was the main reason for taking the job as maid servants. It was also
evident that, maid servants had to face many problems at work place. Moreover problems like low self esteem and
under development are moon among maid servants due to lack respect in the society.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP: A FEMALE LIVELIHOOD SURVEY - MOGADISHU, SOMALIA.

ABSTRACT:The survey research undertaken in Kaaran and Elasha locations in Mogadishu, Somalia. 275
respondents were from Kaaran and 250 respondents from Elasha, 8 respondents did not indicate their location.
Out of the respondents 45% were male and 50% were female. 3.6% of the respondents were aged below 20 years,
32% were aged between 31-40 years, 36% were between 41-50 years and 10.5% were above 50 years. Cronbach
alpha coefficient was used to test for reliability of the research instrument and the result was (.812). The Pearson
Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) and the Mean was employed in inferential analysis with p =
0.929. SPSS 21.0 was used. It was observed that most respondents from both location are drivers especially men,
Casual Laborer, fishing and hawking of house ware goods and cosmetics by women as their main source of
livelihood income. The respondents felt that there was a lot of contribution of business to the development in the
lives of women with 228 respondents while 120 respondents did not know of any contribution.

The relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and Financial performance in the

ABSTRACT:The study critically assessed a causal relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and
firm’s Financial Performance (FP) in the banking sector in Zimbabwe. Data was collected from annual reports
and CSR score was obtained using content analysis. Pooled ordinary least squares model was used to analyse the
relationship between CSR and FP. Company size and capital adequacy ratios were used as the control variables in
the regression model. The study revealed that there is an insignificant negative relationship between CSR and FP
(-0.0017: 0.193) at the 5% level of significance. The research findings also reveal that both capital structure and
company size have a positive significant relationship with financial performance. CSR should be viewed as a
philanthropic activity, not as a marketing strategy in the banking sector.

ABSTRACT:The presence of the EU (European Union) is important for the peace and security of the whole world.
The EU is not only necessary for the peace and security of the European people, but also all people around the
world. In different parts of the world, similar unions are being established and will continue to rise. The EU is in
an idol structure for forming any kind of union. The risk of any kind of conflict disappears between the members
of a union and also eliminates the risk of the conflict for countries neighbouring the union. In the study, the
importance of the EU is emphasized for international peace and security, while the dangers of racism are
mentioned as the greatest threat to the future of the EU. The study specifies the potential impacts of racism on
the deep unification process in the EU as it damages the unity of destiny, while also underlining the necessity of
eradicating racism as soon as possible, not only by the EU authorities, but also by others around the world.

EFFECT OF DUE PROCESS LEGISLATIONS ON THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT:The study assessed the Due process Legislations in Nigeria to determine their impact in the fight
against corruption. Specifically it sought to determine the extent to which the Public Procurement Act, 2007 and
the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007 have collectively impacted on the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Ex-post
facto research design was adopted for the study. Data on corruption ratings of Nigeria were obtained from the
Transparency International while data on Nigeria’s gross domestic product were extracted from Trading
Economics, an international economy rating organization. Chow test of structural stability model of the ordinary
least square method of econometrics regression was used to determine whether the combined effect of the Public
Procurement and Fiscal Responsibility Acts have significantly improved Nigeria’s anti-corruption rating. Findings
show that the two Acts have not made statistically significant impact in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Findings also revealed that Nigeria’s corruption rating averaged 76.25% in the 8 years after the introduction of the
due process legislations as against 97.25% in the corresponding period before the due process legislations. The
implication of these findings is that a more spirited implementation of the provisions of the legislations will be
needed for the Acts to make a statistically significant impact in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT:The purpose of this study is to highlight the comparative study on both genders in public and private
universities, and how it will effect the proactive personality in the context of entrepreneurship intentions. The
core of entrepreneurship is to explore the individual have ability to take initiatives in the terms of social and
economic to utilize resources and generate business. For this research three scales have been used in this
questionnaire to measure Proactive Personality, Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy and Entrepreneurial intentions.In
this study the data were analyzed using independent sample test, one way ANOVA and Spearman correlation. The
impact of entrepreneur on new generation is highly effect in the terms of business, to take risks, mostly in the
institutions of province Sindh, Pakistan. The finding of thehypothesis showed that males do not have more
Entrepreneurial intention rather than females. The students who are studying in private universities have more
Entrepreneurial Intention rather than the students of public universities, those students who have attended the
seminar/workshop/conference on Entrepreneurship have more Entrepreneurial Intention rather than those
students who did not attend the seminar/workshop/conference on Entrepreneurship.Proactive personality is
significantly positively related with Entrepreneurial self-efficacy.The more finding of this research reveals that
universities in Sindh offer one course on entrepreneurship at the bachelor's and Master's levels. Entrepreneurship
is a good platform for the students of BBA, MBA to show up their skills to earn and learn something from that
platform.

ABSTRACT:The study was to determine the employee loyalty and organizational commitment in Port Harcourt..
The study made use of 200 ample size of employees using the non probability sampling technique with a
pearson product correlation to test the relationship using SPSS package. .The findings shows that there exist a
positive relationship between financial benefit, manger attitude and organizational commitment . To achieve the
aim of the study questionnaire survey was used. Also the results show that there is a positive and significant
impact of organizational commitment on employee loyalty in Port Harcourt organizations.Some
recommendations were made to tacle the issues of the research.

ABSTRACT:This study has investigated the influence of leadership style on organizational performance in
organization. The major objective was to determine influence of leadership styles on performance in organization.
Transformational and transactional leadership styles were considered in this study. Transformational leadership
behaviors and performance/outcome considered relevant in the study were charisma, inspirational motivation and
intellectual stimulation/individual consideration; and effectiveness, extra effort and satisfaction, respectively.
Transactional leadership bahaviours and performance/outcome variables were constructive/contingent reward
and corrective/management by exception; and effort, productivity and loyalty/commitment, respectively. The
predictor variable was Leadership Style Democratic, Autocratic and laissez faire and the criterion variable was
firms performance. Crobach alpha 0.9 using one way Anova etc. It was found that staffs with democratic
inclinations account for more variance in performance than autocratic and laissez faire. The result showed that
while transactional leadership style had significant positive influence on performance, transformational leadership
style also had positive but insignificant influence on performance. The study concluded that transactional
leadership style was more appropriate in inducing performance in organization than transformational leadership
style.

ABSTRACT:Democracy is a vital element for the modernization of societies. Through democracy, countries can
realize their economic development. Economic development is necessary to establish the required infrastructure
in a country that will enable it to be classified as a developed country. A common value held by all rich and happy
countries is democracy. Democracy is the foundation of political stability within a country. Political stability is an
indispensable element for producing the policies required for economic stability. It is only possible to achieve
stability in the economy when there is political stability created by a democratic environment. In almost all
countries that do not have any democratic governing structure political conflicts and economic instability could
potentially be seen. In this study, the relationship between democracy and economic development is analyzed as
well as why democracy is necessary for economic development. The study also shows the relationship between the
economic richness and happiness of the countries with the degree to which they are democratic.

ABSTRACT:This study empirically examined the relationship between employee creativity and survival of
manufacturing firms in Port Harcourt, rivers state. Survey research method was adopted with the use of structured
questionnaire to collect data on the dimensions of employee creativity (idea generation, problem sensitivity and
brain storming) and the measures of corporate survival (adaptability, competitiveness and brainstorming). 300
employees were chosen as the sample size with the aid of Judgmental sampling techniques from the population of
1,800 employees of manufacturing firms operating in Port Harcourt, rivers state. The collected data from the
distributed and retrieved questionnaire were analyzed through the use of mean; t-statistic (tables, pie charts, and
standard deviation) and Pearson Moment correlation was used to test the stated hypotheses with the aid of
statistical package for social sciences. The findings showed that there is a positive, very strong and significant
relationship between idea generation, problem sensitivity and brainstorming and corporate survival (adaptability,
competitiveness and keystone vulnerability) of employees in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It also provides empirical
evidence of the existence of weak, strong and moderate relationship between idea generation, problem sensitivity
and brainstorming in Port Harcourt, Rivers State specifically. However, the study inference that for any
manufacturing firm that wants to grow and yield productivity, there should be immediate recognition of
employees that are creative, to achieve this, managers should make it as a routine to work as team, brainstorm and
be creative as air is to the living.
